Kathryn began her connection with Sonoma State walking her dogs on our beautiful campus for ten years, after she and her husband re-located to Penngrove in 2012. Her love of the campus environment spurred her to help fund work to restore some of garden areas along Copeland Creek after the pandemic.

Kathryn has experience in corporate banking, technology startups, and, more recently, as a Certified Financial Planner® with Abacus Wealth Partners. In the middle of her career, her family moved from Marin County to Northern Virginia, where she taught IB Business and IB Economics in Fairfax County, combining her interest in finance and business with her love for teaching and education. She was the Virginia Economic Educator of the Year in 2010.

In addition, she has consistently been involved in supporting her community, serving on nonprofit boards and in philanthropic member organizations. In CA, she has served in board leadership positions for the Junior League of California, Canal Ministry (now Canal Alliance in San Rafael), California Pacific Medical Center and Novato Community Hospital (Sutter Health), and the Haas School Alumni Network (North Bay). She currently serves as the Board President of the Sonoma County Parks Foundation and a member of the Finance Committee for United Policyholders, a consumer advocacy organization for insurance policyholders.

Kathryn was born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina. She received her BA in Political Science from Duke University, and her MBA from the Haas School at UC-Berkeley.
