Purpose

50 years Sonoma State University Foundation logo

The Sonoma State University Foundation is a nonprofit organization that plays an essential role in sustaining and enhancing the excellence of Sonoma State University through the raising and management of philanthropic support on behalf of the University, stewarding private donations to the University, and managing the University's endowment.  It is governed by a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors.

The Foundation was established in 1974, and continues to maintain its status as an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and auxiliary organization of Sonoma State University.

With support from our donors, and the directors of the Foundation, the endowment market value, and annual distributions from the endowment, have continued to grow over the years.  The endowment has surpassed the $70 million mark and over $2 million is now distributed annually to campus programs and scholarships based on donor intent.

Please see the annual Endowment Report for more information.

Additionally, SSUF encourages its Outsourced Chief Investment Office (OCIO) to consider the environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices of the corporations in which the endowment is invested, through factors outlined in the Foundation's Responsible Investing Position Statement.
