Biography

Chan earned her BS and MS in Mathematics from the University of Chicago and her PH. D from UCLA. She was on the SSU faculty from 1973-2005, and served as Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics for two terms. She founded the M*A*T*H* Colloquium and the local Chapter of the National Math Honors Society for SSU students. She has published two books, Discrete Mathematics and Applications with co-author Bill Barnier, and Geometry with Projects and Explorations with co- author Sam Brannen. Nationally, she served as governor and vice president in the Mathematical Assoc. of America. In California, Chan founded the Asian Alliance of Marin which promotes justice and provides networking opportunities for Asian Americans. She also founded the Asian Scholarship Fund that grants scholarships to deserving high school seniors of Asian descent from Marin, Sonoma and Napa counties.
